Statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey in Response to a Question Regarding the Press Report Claiming that the Alican Border Gate between Turkey and Armenia will be opened

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 04.07.2014

QA-18, 4 July 2014

The report which appeared in a newspaper today (4 July) claiming that the border gate between Turkey and Armenia will be opened does not reflect the truth.

As it is known, the border between Turkey and Armenia was closed in 1993 after Armenia invaded Azerbaijani territories.

The opening of the border could be brought into question only in the framework of the developments providing a comprehensive and sustainable normalization in the Southern Caucasus. In this context, it will be decisive that Armenia shows its willingness to settle its disputes with all of its neighboring countries and takes the necessary steps accordingly.
